Hiking Red Lake Indian River Trail
Hiking the Red Lake Indian River Trail
#1000islands #Thousandislands
It has been a while since we posted a new Thousand Islands hiking trail. We discovered it on the AllTrails.com website and realized it was one we had never heard of before. From the website we learned it is only a few miles north of Theresa, NY and is not too far from several of the Indian River Conservancy Trails we had hiked. It is a 2.2 mile loop and was named because the trail (which is really an unpaved access road) takes you from the boat launch parking spot on Indian River to the boat launch site for Red Lake.
We enjoyed both the river and the lake, and also the interesting trail in between them. The water levels were quite high on the day we were there so the first part of the walk was through a wetland area. When we neared the lake the road passed through a lovely forested area and we heard a loon crying in the distance.
At the Red Lake boat launch site we enjoyed a full concert of the local frogs. The parking area was full and this is apparently a very popular spot for kayakers.
It was a lovely and peaceful walk in one of the many beautiful spots we have discovered in the Indian River Lakes area.
