Special appearance by Curious George;
Border agents to host panel discussion
CLAYTON,
New York (June 2, 2013) – T
he Antique Boat Museum invites everyone to come to
Clayton on Saturday, June 14 for a fun-filled day of activities.
The
popular free admission 1000 Islands Family Day once again highlights the June
calendar at the ABM and will coincide with the ABM supported Seaway Splash
event in Frink Park. This year’s 1000 Islands Family Day is presented by
Watertown Savings Bank and WPBS.
Visit
the ABM on June 14 for free admission all day and activities for the entire
family between the hours of 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Activities
will include free skiff rowing, discount speedboat rides, food and beverages
for a nominal fee, face painting, crafts, a special appearance by children’s
book character Curious George, and much more.
In
addition, the ABM, along with US and Canadian border officials, will host a
panel discussion, Boating on the Border, beginning at 12:30 p.m. Canadian
Border Services, U.S. Border Patrol, and U.S. Coast Guard will each introduce
their organization’s mission of work on the River. Boaters from both sides of
the River are encouraged to come with questions regarding: enforcement, any
recent changes of policy, crossing procedures (“in transit,” not stopping,
anchoring for the day), what not to have onboard your boat, and more. This is a
good time to dispel myths and educate boaters about how to safely and legally
navigate and enjoy both sides of the River along the international border.
A free
shuttle service will be available throughout the day to bring visitors to and
from the ABM, NYS Food & Wine Festival (Cerow Arena), and Seaway Splash
(Frink Park).
In
addition to Saturday’s activities, the ABM invites you to stop by Seaway Splash
at Frink Park on Sunday, June 15 for a special Father’s Day gift for dad. The
first 50 dads to visit the park will receive a complimentary admission pass to
the Museum for the 2014 season.
The
ABM, now open daily 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., is home to North America’s largest
antique boat collection with more than 300 boats and over 1,000 boating
artifacts. In addition, the Museum is also host of the longest running antique
boat show, which will celebrate its 50th year this August 1-3, and is known as
the birthplace of the antique raceboat regatta, which will run August 8-10. For
more information, please visit the Museum’s website at
